Red Afro Expertise

Jimmy and Njuguna met in a small animation and VFX studio known as Pixel Unit. Jimmy went to that studio after meeting one of the partners who said that they had a computer monitor that was not working. Jimmy, at that time, was working in electronics and was commissioned to fix the monitor.

The studio was in a building on the back street of one of the main roads through Westlands. Jimmy walked in and found a group of people who were living out his dream. Animation and visual effects. Njuguna, freshly minted with his degree in computer science, was one of the team.

Jimmy and Njuguna then became part of the founders of the Ark Creative, a collective of artists. Ark Creative then changed into the Ark Africa, a "creative advertising agency and strategic management consulting" firm.

After leaving the Ark, with everything they had learnt along the way, the two set up the Red Afro. The Red Afro i a vehicle to build the infrastructure, brands and content that are needed in the future of Africa.

Why is this story important? It is because our expertise ranges across graphic design, brand development, content creation in both live action and animation, post production and motion design. On the Internet, it ranges from web user interface design and micro animations for enhancing user experiences, software development for devices and the Cloud, infrastructure deployment on any Cloud hosting platform and game development. We are in the Internet of Things, developing hardware and software that is specific to the African context.
